Rossum showed up to audition as Harajuku girl

Emmy Rossum showed up to the audition of Beautiful Creatures dressed as one of Gwen Stefanis Harajuku Girls.

The actress stars as siren Ridley Duchannes in the Richard LaGravenese film adaptation of the 2009 fantasy novel by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl.

Her character in the book is described as a daisy duke-wearing blonde who sucks on lollipops.

When Emmy was called in to read for the part she thought she had found the perfect inspiration.

I kind of envisioned her as [one of] Gwen Stefanis Harajuku girls, she told ScreenCrave.com.

I thought we were going to do blonde with a pink streak and lollipops and daisy dukes. Thats how I auditioned in fact. I was wearing daisy dukes and boots because I had read the book too.

She later learned the director had other ideas.

Inspired by old Hollywood glamour, Richard decided to maker her character look much more sinister.

Promotional images from the film show Emmy in character wearing black lace and crimson red lips. In the end she was thrilled with the change.

We went more channeling Marilyn Monroe in River of No Return and Rita Hayworth in Gilda. Its all these kind of subliminal references to old Hollywood which I loved. It was a lot of fun for me to dress up, Emmy said.

The actress also opened up about critics comparisons of her bewitching new film to the blockbuster Twilight franchise.

Aside from the films being based on young adult novels and involving love stories, she doesnt see much to compare.

Besides the fact that you have a coming of age story, there have always been supernatural stories and love stories since Adam and Eve, since Biblical times, she said.

Beautiful Creatures follows a young couple in a small Southern town who discover dark secrets about their families, their history and their town.

The film is scheduled for release this year.
