Why Lady Gaga and Gwen Stefani Should Be Mad at Madonna

Lady Gaga is at it again!

Anyone else think that Madonna's Super Bowl performance was B-A-N-A-N-A-S?

With cheerleader outfits, chanting, word spelling, and a marching band, her halftime show performance of "Give Me All Your Luvin" looked vaguely familiar - it was almost a rip-off of Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" music video.

Of course it made sense for her to use athletic imagery since she was performing at a football game, but Her Madgesty should know better than to do something slightly similar to what another artist has done in the past. After all, Madge recently criticized Lady Gaga for doing the same thing.

Mama Monster's smash hit "Born This Way" is oft compared to the Material Girl's "Express Yourself" since both songs have a similar sound and message, and the similarities have not escaped Madge's attention. During a recent ABC News interview, she tried to play nice at first by calling Gaga's references to her "amusing" and "flattering," but when she was pressed on the subject and asked if the similarities between the two songs annoyed her, she finally broke down and called Mama Monster "reductive." So basically she accused Gaga of crudely simplifying her work.

Gaga has gushed over Her Madgesty time and time again, so that really had to hurt. It's just a shame that Gaga seems to be so non-confrontational - someone probably needs to give the Queen of Pop a wakeup call by calling her out for being a hypocrite. She needs to realize that she's going to have to give up her crown someday and that she should be grateful that she's kept it this long. Unfortunately no! w Gaga a nd the veiny-armed vixen are kind of like Snow White and the Evil Queen - the Magic Mirror won't keep telling Madge that she's the fairest in the land forever, and she's already starting to fight for her place in the pop kingdom.

Of course it would be much better if Her Madgesty and Mama Monster could kiss and make up, and after all the attention that MTV make out session with Britney Spears got the aging pop star, maybe she'll consider it.

Meanwhile Ms. Stefani might want to "holla back" at her fellow ambitious blonde for stealing her sporty cheerleader shtick. At least Madge's "Give Me All Your Luvin" music video differed from Gwen's for "Holla Back" in that it added football players, a sports bar version of the milk bar from "A Clockwork Orange," a machine gun, walking on walls, and tacky Marilyn Monroe costumes. But ripping off other artists in the music video still doesn't excuse Madge's Super Bowl performance.

Maybe "Mickey" singer Toni Basil is ultimately the one who should really be upset - two platinum-haired pop princesses have ripped her off by showing their team spirit, and it will probably only be a matter of time before Gaga introduces the world to her cheerleader alter ego.
